A characterful late 18th century oak housekeeper’s cupboard with beautifully simple panelled construction and a deep time-worn patina.
The cupboard features two upper panelled doors opening to a shelved interior with traditional wooden hooks, while the lower section is formed from four fielded panels giving the piece a strong architectural presence.
Constructed from solid oak with a plank back and traditional pegged frame, the cupboard shows wonderful signs of age including hand-planed surfaces, historic wear and a lovely mellow colour developed over centuries.
The interior retains an early iron lock and simple wooden knobs which suit the honest country character of the piece.
Originally used for storage in farmhouses and country houses, cupboards of this type are increasingly sought after for kitchens, hallways and country interiors where genuine period furniture adds warmth and character.
A versatile and very usable antique piece.
